ABOUTTHE EXPERT

Hod Lipson is a Professor and Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Columbia University in New York.

He is a co-author of the award winning books, “Fabricated: The New World of 3D Printing”, and “Driverless: Intelligent Cars And The Road Ahead”. His work on self-aware and self-replicating robots, recently featured by the New York Times, challenges conventional views of robotics. Hod directs the Creative Machines Lab, which pioneers new ways to make machines that create, and machines that are creative.

Workshop Agenda

MODULE 01

ACTIVATING DATA LITERACY IN HR PROFESSIONALS

GOAL: TO UNDERSTAND WHY AI IS MOVING FORWARD EXPONENTIALLY

Overview
This module will understand the various driving forces behind the exponential growth in AI like:
  • Why is AI accelerating?
  • What is driving it forward?
  • Are these forces likely to slow down?
Activity
  • Define and discuss the four forces driving AI, including computing power, data, models, and cloud.
  • Understand how these forcesinteract and how to use them to amplify your organisation's progress.
Expected
Outcomes
Understanding the growth drivers of AI will allow participants to foresee trends in AI
and make choices that will allow the organisation to maximise ROI in various AI directions.

MODULE 02

CONSULTING WITH DATA

GOAL: UNDERSTAND HOW CREATIVE AI WORKS

Overview
This module will discuss the transition from old fashioned analytical AI (that makes decisions) to generative AI (that synthesis new content). This module will help you understand Synthesis of new material operation using a new principle called “self-supervised learning”. By understanding this, gain insight into the underlying principle of this powerful new technology.
Activity
  • Define and discuss the notion of “Language” as used by large language models (LLMs).
  • Understand how transformer technologies open the door to solving some of human’s greatest challenges - from creating new materials, to solving climate problems to democratising education.
Expected
Outcomes
Through this module, understanding the principles behind generative AI will enable you to demystify it thus making it less of a magical ability and more of a realistic problem solving tool.
